About Karnic Power Boats

THE HISTORY OF KARNIC POWER BOATS

Karnic Powerboats Ltd was founded in 1993 as a private company. In the early years the boats produced by the company were outboard runabout models of up to 18ft in length to satisfy the needs of the local market.

After some years the company introduced the first model of the Bluewater line, a 21ft walkaround with offshore hull design which marked the beginning of a new era for Karnic as it attracted interest from markets abroad. Exports gradually begun in 1998 and by year 2000 nearly all production was exported, to reach at present a destination list of more than 20 countries. Since then, the company has been honoured for their export achievement four times with the Cyprus Export Award.

In year 2000 the company moved operations in private establishments that were custom developed to satisfy their production needs at the time in a land area of 4000 square meters. The continuous growth of the company in the years that followed led to further investments for factory space expansion in order to satisfy increased production requirements. Today the company operates in private premises of 18000 square meters, 5000 of which are covered.
With emphasis on the design and style of the product, in year 2004 the company invested in CAD-CAM technology which enabled the transformation of the Bluewater line to modern, styled designs with high degree of detail. It also enabled the use of advanced construction techniques such as all-composite structures and close mouldings.

The production is organised in all stages, from the supply of parts and materials to assembly, shipping and sales, with numerous controls in the process to ensure product quality and uniformity. In 2006 a drastic restructuring of the production system based on ‘lean’ principles has improved productivity by a high two-figure percentage and has become the base for all subsequent developments and investments in the production methods of the company.

A bookmark for the company is the decision to develop a new range of bigger more luxurious boats, the ‘Cruiser Line’. Prime requirements for the development of this range was to offer multi-purpose boats with unique aggressive style, high level of detail, luxury, comfort and quality, at competitive price so there is highest value of the customer investment. The first model of the range, model 2965, was launched in Summer 2008. Other bigger designs are scheduled to enrich Cruiser Line in the years to come.

Five reasons that define 'The Distinctive Choice'

  1. Efficient and High Performance Hull Shape
Karnic engineers give high emphasis on the design of hull. In fact, every shape, dimension, edge or corner on each Karnic hull has been designed to serve a purpose. Pronounced and deep spray rails on the hull bottom at the right position and length, reverse shape of chines, variable bottom ‘V’ angle, the presence of planing pad, waterline beam and topside flair, are significant parameters to achieve an outstanding water behaviour in calm and rough conditions, in motion or at rest.
  2. Structural Coherence and Rigidity
Karnic hulls are reinforced with an ‘all-composite’ foam injected stringer system designed to provide an ultra stiff structure both in flexure and torsion. Hull stiffness is a critical feature to avoid shape deformation under the high water pressure loads at speed. In fact, a Karnic hull is so stiff that it can be suspended asymmetrically from three points without signs of flexing or twisting. In addition, the material homogeneity distributes stresses evenly and prolongs product lifetime as more vulnerable materials such as wood are eliminated.
  3. High Quality of Build
High quality of build is a principal requirement for every part or component produced by Karnic, covering from the selection of parts and materials to product fabrication and assembly. There are numerous examples of visible features that demonstrate this such as the bonded rather than screwed solid wood cabin door frames, the styled stainless cleats, the all welded rails, the automotive style bonded glass on all closed cockpit models or in the non-visible areas, the osmosis resistance vinylester skin coat standard on all hulls and the use of topcoat on all internal hull surfaces for maximum protection.
  4. Product Style and Detail
Karnic aims in every design to offer unique styling and usable detail with complex modern surfaces to define shapes, well studied ergonomics and balanced space allocation. Although this requires a lot more effort during design and development, it achieves the unique character of all Karnic models and maximises return to owner for a given boat category. It is generally observed that there are more features, detail and space utilisation in a given square meter on a Karnic than the equivalent square meter on a competitive boat of the same category.
  5. High Product Value for Money
Karnic manages to offer a high value product at competitive prices because of the emphasis given in developing and refining a highly efficient production system that is based on accuracy and flexibility to autonomously control quality with more than 150 control points per line. The challenge for Karnic is to minimise production costs by refining and developing methods or processes to increase productivity and eliminate waste rather than sacrificing quality.
